Changing the paragraph style of text

You can change the paragraph style that is applied to individual text items and within individual text frames, including on page templates. For example, if you want to use one paragraph style for page numbers in full score layouts and another for page numbers in part layouts.

  • You have created any custom paragraph styles that you want to use.

  • If you want to change the paragraph style of text on a page template, you have opened the page template in the page template editor.

  1. Double-click the text item or text frame whose paragraph style you want to change to open the text editor.
    • To open the text editor for text items, you must be in Write mode. For text frames, you can be in Write mode or Engrave mode.

    • When Frames Frames button is selected in the Engrave toolbox, you can also select text frames and press Return.

  2. In text frames, select the text whose paragraph style you want to change.

Each paragraph in the same text frame can have a different paragraph style.

  3. Select a paragraph style from the paragraph style menu in the text editor.
  4. Press Esc or Ctrl/Cmd-Return to close the text editor.

The paragraph style of the selected text item or paragraphs in a text frame is changed. For example, if you select a single word in a text frame, the whole paragraph containing that word is changed.

If you override the paragraph style of text in an individual text item or text frame, such as by making text bold, any changes you later make to corresponding parameters of the paragraph style are not applied to the overridden text. However, font size overrides are combined with the font size in the paragraph style.
