Cues
Cues are passages of music shown in instrumental parts that are played by a different player, usually to help orientate players before entries or solos following a significant passage of rests.
Stem direction in cues
Notes in cues normally have the same stem direction, as cues usually highlight lines containing only one voice. Cues are shown by default with bar rests alongside them to indicate that the player reading the cue does not play those notes.
Changing the stem direction of cues
You can override the default stem directions of individual single-voice cues. For example, if you want some cues that by default had down stems to appear with up stems and bar rests below cue notes instead.

Prerequisite

The lower zone is shown.
Properties is selected in the lower zone toolbar.
If you are in Engrave mode, Graphic Editing is selected in the Engrave toolbox.

Procedure

Select the labels or signposts of the cues whose stem direction you want to change. You can do this in Write mode and Engrave mode.
In the Properties panel, activate Voice direction in the Cues group.
Choose one of the following options:
- Force stems up
- Force stems down

Result

The stem direction of all notes in the selected cues is changed.

Deactivating Voice direction returns the selected cues back to their default stem direction.
