Creating custom instrument score orders

You can create custom instrument score orders that contain any combination of instrument families available on your computer; for example, to accommodate alternative score order conventions. You can save custom instrument score orders as default to make them available in multiple projects.

Prerequisite

You have created any custom instrument families that you want to include.

Procedure

  1. Choose Library > Instrument Score Orders to open the Edit Instrument Score Orders dialog.
  2. In the instrument score orders list, select the instrument score order that you want to duplicate as the basis for your new instrument score order.
  3. In the action bar, click New from Selection .
  4. Click Rename to open the instrument score order name text field.
  5. Enter a new name for the instrument score order, or edit the existing name.
  6. Press Return.
  7. In the Families column, select the instrument families whose score position you want to change.
    Note

    Instrument families that only contain instruments that also belong to another instrument family do not appear in the list.

  8. Do one of the following:
    • To position them higher in the score order, click Move Up in the action bar as many times as required.

    • To position them lower in the score order, click Move Down in the action bar as many times as required.

  9. In the Instruments column, select the instruments in the selected instrument family whose score position you want to change.
  10. Do one of the following:
    • To position them higher in the score order, click Move Up in the action bar as many times as required.

    • To position them lower in the score order, click Move Down in the action bar as many times as required.

  11. Optional: For instruments with variants, in the Variants column, select the variants whose score position you want to change.
  12. Do one of the following:
    • To position them higher in the score order, click Move Up in the action bar as many times as required.

    • To position them lower in the score order, click Move Down in the action bar as many times as required.

  13. Optional: To make the instrument score order available in all future projects, click Save as Default in the instrument score orders list action bar.
  14. Click OK to save your changes and close the dialog.

Result

The new custom instrument score order is added to the project.

If you clicked Save as Default so that it appears as , the custom instrument score order is available in all future projects on your computer.

After Completing This Task

You can apply instrument score orders to projects, which changes the default order in which staves appear in all layouts.
