Instrument score orders

Instrument score orders determine the default order of staves in all layouts project-wide. There are different accepted standards according to the musical context. For example, percussion staves typically appear above the strings in orchestral scores, but below them in wind/concert band scores.

You can create and edit custom instrument score orders in the Edit Instrument Score Orders dialog. If you have created custom instrument families, you can include them in instrument score orders.

You can change the instrument score order applied to your project in Setup mode. This sorts all players according to the first instrument they hold.

Dorico Pro provides the following instrument score orders by default:

Band

Players are sorted according to the accepted wind/concert band convention; for example, strings positioned between brass and percussion.

Jazz

Players are sorted according to the accepted jazz convention; for example, trumpets positioned above horns, and pitched percussion above guitars.

Orchestral

Players are sorted according to the accepted orchestral order convention; for example, woodwinds positioned above brass and strings.
