Creating custom instrument families

You can create custom instrument families that contain any instruments available on your computer; for example, to define bracket grouping for custom instruments. You can save custom instrument families as default to make them available in multiple projects.

Prerequisite

You have created any custom instruments that you want to add.

Procedure

  1. Choose Library > Instrument Families to open the Edit Instrument Families dialog.
  2. Create a new instrument family in one of the following ways:
    • To create a new empty instrument family, click New in the instrument families list action bar.

    • To create a copy of an existing instrument family, select it in the instrument families list, then click New from Selection in the action bar.

  3. Click Rename to open the instrument family name text field.
  4. Enter a new name for the instrument family, or edit the existing name.
  5. Press Return.
  6. Change the instruments included in the instrument family in any of the following ways:
    • To add instruments to the instrument family, select them in the Instruments not in selected family list, then click Add instrument to family in the action bar.

      Tip

      You can filter the list by entering instrument names into the Search field.

    • To remove instruments from the instrument family, select them in the Instruments in selected family list, then click Remove instrument from family in the action bar.

  7. Optional: To make the instrument family available in all future projects, click Save as Default in the instrument families list action bar.
  8. Click OK to save your changes and close the dialog.

Result

The new custom instrument family is added to the project. For example, it appears in the instrument family column in the instrument picker.

If you clicked Save as Default so that it appears as , the custom instrument family is available in all future projects on your computer.
