Changing the paragraph style in text frames

You can change the paragraph style that is applied to individual paragraphs in text frames, including on page templates. For example, if you want to use one paragraph style for section headings and another paragraph style for body text in the front matter.

Prerequisite

  • You have created any custom paragraph styles that you want to use.

  • If you want to change the paragraph style of text on a page template, you have opened the page template in the page template editor.

Procedure

  1. Double-click the text frame whose paragraph style you want to change to open the text editor. You can do this in Write mode and Engrave mode.
    Tip

When Frames Frames button is selected in the Engrave toolbox, you can also select text frames and press Return.

  2. Select the text whose paragraph style you want to change.
    Tip

Each paragraph in the same text frame can have a different paragraph style.

  3. Select a paragraph style from the paragraph style menu in the text editor.
  4. Press Esc or Ctrl/Cmd-Return to close the text editor.

Result

The paragraph style of the selected paragraphs is changed. For example, if you select a single word in a text frame, the whole paragraph containing that word is changed.

Note

If you override the paragraph style of text in an individual text item or text frame, such as by making text bold, any changes you later make to corresponding parameters of the paragraph style are not applied to the overridden text. However, font size overrides are combined with the font size in the paragraph style.
