Muting notes/items individually

You can mute individual notes and items to exclude them from playback without deleting them, and in specific playthroughs only. For example, if you want to hear chords without their arpeggios, a passage with multiple dynamics at a single volume level, or without tempo changes from specific tempo marks.

Prerequisite

  • The lower zone is shown.

  • Properties is selected in the lower zone toolbar.

  • If you are in Engrave mode, Graphic Editing Graphic Editing button is selected in the Engrave toolbox.

Procedure

  1. Select the notes/items you want to mute. You can do this in Write mode and Engrave mode.
  2. In the Properties panel, activate Suppress playback in the Common group.
  3. Choose one of the following options:
    • To mute the selected notes/items in all playthroughs, choose Always.

    • To mute the selected notes/items only in specific playthroughs, choose On Passes.

  4. Optional: If you chose On Passes, activate Suppress on passes.
  5. Optional: Enter the playthroughs in which you want to mute the selected notes/items.
    • To specify a range of playthroughs, enter the first playthrough and last playthrough separated with a dash, such as 1-4.

    • To specify individual playthroughs or separate ranges, enter each playthrough/range separated with commas, such as 1,3,5-8.

Result

The selected items are muted in either all or only the specified playthroughs.
