Changing the item input position setting

By default, Dorico Elements inputs items at the position of the earliest note on each selected staff. You can change this setting if you prefer to input items at the same rhythmic position on each selected staff, regardless of whether that represents a note or rest.

Procedure

  1. Press Ctrl/Cmd-, to open Preferences.
  2. In the category list, click Note Input and Editing.
  3. In the Editing section, activate/deactivate Create items at position of first selected note.
  4. Optional: If you activated Create items at position of first selected note, activate/deactivate Create clefs at position of first selected note.
  5. Click Apply, then Close.

Result

When Create items at position of first selected note is activated, items are input at the rhythmic position of the earliest selected note. Items with duration end at the rhythmic position of the last selected note. This can cause items to be input at different rhythmic positions on each selected staff.

When Create items at position of first selected note is deactivated, items are input at the rhythmic position of the earliest selected item. Items with duration end at the rhythmic position of the last selected item. This can cause items to be input at the rhythmic positions of rests rather than notes.
