MIDI Instruments and Channels

Most MIDI synthesizers can play several sounds simultaneously, each on a different MIDI channel. This allows you to play back several sounds (bass, piano, etc.) from the same instrument.

Some devices, such as General MIDI compatible sound modules, always receive on all 16 MIDI channels. If you have such an instrument, you do not have to adjust any settings in the instrument.

On other instruments, use the front panel controls to specify the number of parts, timbres, and the like, so that they all receive on one MIDI channel.

For more information, refer to the manual that came with your instrument.
