Inputting clefs with the panel

You can input clefs using the Clefs panel, both during note input and by adding them to existing music.

  • These steps describe inputting with the default mouse input preference Create item at selection.

  • Many instruments in Dorico Elements have variants that show alternative clefs according to the layout transposition by default. You can select the appropriate instrument variant from the instrument picker when adding or changing instruments.

  1. In Write mode, do one of the following:
    • Start note input.

    • Select an item on each staff at the rhythmic position where you want to input a clef. If you want to add restorative clefs at later positions, select items that span the required duration.

  2. In the Notations toolbox, click Panels Panels button, then Clefs Clefs button to show the Clefs panel.
  3. In the Clefs panel, click the clef you want.

During note input, clefs are input at the caret position.

Clefs added to existing music are input on each selected staff, at the rhythmic position of the earliest selected either note or item, according to your item input position setting. When you add clefs to a range of selected items, restorative clefs are also added at the end of the selection.

Clefs apply to all notes on the staff until the next clef or the end of the flow, whichever comes first.
